NYC ARTIST JEREMY PENN COLLABORATES WITH LULULEMON ATHLETICA FOR UNIQUE ART ENDEAVOR
Now, more than ever, the need to unify our country is essential. We are making a declaration to bring people together; that no matter where you come from or what your point-of-view is, we are stronger together. We are calling on people to open their minds and their hearts, that we are stronger as a nation interdependent on one another, than independent.
For the first time ever, lululemon athletica collaborated with myself and 3 other American artists to celebrate the country’s uniqueness as individuals, and strength as a collaborative unit. The concept is called UnitedSTATE!
In May, lululemon brought us 4 artists to NYC to create a collection of artwork that reflects each individual interpretation of UnitedSTATE and the following declaration…
The UnitedSTATE Declaration of Interdepedence
Hey everyone, let’s hold these truths to be self-evident That all men and women and crashing surf,
dogs and headstands and high fives
Are created equal.
That we are endowed with certain unalienable rights. The right to have skin slicked with sweat
To push ourselves to be better, more connected, more alive.
The right to see individuals individually And as part of a bigger family.
The right to depend on each other
To reach out and reach across
With open hands and an open heart
To be stronger together, even when we’re apart.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of unity. That’s a state we always want to be in.
Beginning June 30, the final UnitedSTATE artwork by each artist will be displayed in lululemon stores in the artist’s hometowns, including:
Jeremy Penn (NYC) – Brookfield, Brooklyn, Madison Ave, East 66th, Flatiron, Soho
Heather Day (SF) – Cow Hollow, Grant Avenue, San Francisco Centre
Allison Kunath (LA) – Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Malibu, Robertson, Santa Monica
Brian Wooden (Nashville) – Hill Centre, Franklin
Just in time for July 4th + in the midst of the U.S. Presidential election, lululemon is hoping to inspire guests with UnitedSTATE artwork, personal artist stories and spark a conversation that galvanizes communities to ‘declare interdependence!’
My personal note about working with Lululemon:
Throughout my art career, I have been fortunate enough to team up with some amazing brands who understand, respect, and value the power of art.
With that said, I don’t know if I will ever meet or work with a brand as incredible as Lululemon. Even writing this and referring to them as a brand seems unjust. Working with Lululemon is like working with a family of inspiring individuals who all have a highly contagious case of genuine positivity and love.
From the moment I met everyone, I felt energized and ready for the adventure that I was about to embark on. The experience of being involved in the UnitedState project was deeper than anticipated and will go down as one of the most special and memorable experiences of my life.
I learned so much about myself and Lululemon Athletica as a brand. You may think that a publicly traded company like Lululemon would lose their core values but it is their core values which are non-negotiable and set them apart from any corporation. They are the real deal when it comes to their mission of increasing global consciousness, social awareness, and the importance of an active lifestyle.
I wanted to use these last words to thank the 3 other artists I worked with and the incredible team at Lululemon.
All Love, Jeremy
